Editorial

Dear Reader,

The Citizens Foundation (TCF) Team gears up as summer beams in new ventures and exciting projects.
The year 2009 ushers in thousands of young children into many more TCF Schools in new rural and urban locations all over Pakistan.

As TCF growth trajectory continues, we are faced with stark challenges and now more than ever before, we are grateful for your unyielding support in strengthening our Education Program. As of the new academic session, there are now 80,000 deserving girls and boys arriving in their TCF Campuses every morning.

It takes a meager amount to support the education of a child for an entire year. Your gracious donation for 'support-a-child' fund can alter young lives and help fulfill innocent dreams!
Please log on to:

Keeping you abreast with latest developments in TCF Education Program and sharing with you six-monthly highlights, this issue also updates you on TCF Students', volunteers' and international supporters' activities. We also take pride in sharing with you that for the second consecutive year TCF has won Management Association Pakistan's (MAP) Corporate Excellence Award in the Non-Profit Social Services Sector. TCF Team firmly believes that each of us is capable of making a positive difference in this society and the time to act is NOW. You are part of TCF Movement and together we will continue to create opportunities to improve quality of life for our nation.

Young Achievers
Time and again, TCF Students make us proud - be it their academic or extracurricular achievements.

Interns & Trainees
Two students each are interning at Barclays Bank and Citibank. TCF Graduates, Urooba Yousuf and M Bilal Rafique are working for Barclays while Zaitoon Karim and Mohammad Saleem are interns at Citibank. Furthermore 14 students from 8 different TCF schools in Karachi have been enrolled in a three-month training program by The Resource Group (TRG) that provides management and IT Consultancy. This training commenced on June 1, 2009. Since 2008 TRG has been recruiting TCF Students in training programs.

Arty Ones
Young artistic talent is always nurtured in TCF. In March, two entries from TCF Schools in Nazeerabad and ST-14 Hawksbay were selected to represent Pakistan in 'My Bright Smile' annual Global Art Contest 2009-10 held by Colgate. In May, Indus Motors held an art competition; the theme was 'Road Safety'. At a lovely ceremony held at Indus Motor Company on May 7, 50 TCF Students from South West and South Regions were awarded for their imaginative posters and art models. Numerous students from these regions also participated in an art competition held by Transparency International Pakistan which is a chapter of Transparency International - one of the largest anti-corruption network acting globally with its headquarters in Germany. The theme of this competition was 'a child's view of corruption'. Transparency International Pakistan awarded TCF Students with certificates and their art pieces were put on exhibition at the Arts Council in Karachi on February 18 & 19.

Young Broadcasters
For the first time, young TCF Students in Karachi went on air in two different programs of a leading Pakistani radio channel FM 91. In February, Umer Rafique and Ismail Rustum from Cowasjee Campus Grade V were interviewed for a program called “Main Chhota Sa Ek Bacha Hun Par Baat Karoonga Bari Bari”. Clips from the competition were aired on TV one and News one on March-1. Furthermore in April, Sawera and Mujtaba of Grade IV from Saadat Bari Campus were selected for a trip to FM 91 Studio, where they were featured on a program 'Campus Radio'.
