The goal of TCF’s Rehabilitation program is to not only provide shelter to the affected but to rehabilitate them through an extensive program of housing, capacity building and training and bringing the basic amenities. |
| |
| 500 homes and more being built |
| |
Rehabilitation through building houses continues in 33 villages over six union councils in Azad |
| Kashmir and NWFP. With the support of its generous donors and hardwork |
 |
| put in by TCF Staff and the homeowners themselves, the 500th house was completed in Azad Kashmir. The housing construction, a community based program, has not only provided a safe shelter to the people but has also enabled them to restart their lives once again in a safe and secure manner. Residents of these villages can be seen carrying out their everyday tasks of visiting other families and sending their children to school. |

| Water Relief |
| |
TCF discovered that the villages lacked a proper water supply system, leaving the residents to fetch water from streams and wa-
|
ter springs and bring it back to their homes in buckets. TCF after consulta-
tion for |
 |
| the residents of
the villages and experts has established a water supply system
whereby water will be drawn from the ground or brought through a stream to water storage tanks or water reservoirs. The water reservoirs will then be connected to taps, which will provide clean water. The system has been established in over 5 villages in Azad Kashmir and is currently under construction in 23 other villages. |

| Schools in EQ areas
|
| |
During TCF's rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the earthquake affected areas, TCF immediately realized the attention that had to be accorded to restoration of the regions education system. The earthquake brought with it devastation that accounted for enormous casualties of young children studying as the school structures came down. TCF undertook comprehensive surveys in order to determine the need for schools. Different locations were assesed for their specific requirem-
|
ment and the feasibil-
ity of the project in the area. After much planning and deliberation, TCF management |
|
decided to undertake the planning and construction of 18-20 standard TCF Primary Schools in these areas during 2007.
Amongst many others, TCF Partners in this initiative include PepsiCo Foundation, Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Pakistani Women’s Association (Bahrain), British Women’s Association, LUMS,
Roche, BHP Billiton, Credit Suisse, Rotary Club of Karachi and Czech super-model Petra Nemcova’s Happy Heart Foundation.
Currently under construction in16 locations across the provinces of NWFP and AJK, these schools have been seismically designed with quake-resistant architecture as per Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) specifications. TCF plans to have the schools operational in time for the Academic Year beginning in 2007. It is TCF’s desire to see that the construction of these schools will help create havens of hope and opportunity for the children of the region. |
