Who would have thought that there could be an altruistic reason for a bevy of ladies dressed to the sixes and sevens in chunri and chooris getting together to listen to music and jokes.
Organised by Supporters of TCF, the annual affair was held to auction designer items such as paintings, apparel, furniture and jewellery in order to raise funds to support the students of TCF schools. Though this time round there were less items up for auction, there were quite a few items available for sale at discounted prices, and needless to say most of the stuff was snapped up by the ladies present.
The entertainment part of the evening comprised songs mellifluously sung by the amateur singer Noor who not only enthralled audiences by singing the legendary Madam Noor Jehan’s most popular numbers chronologically from the start of her career, but she also narrated the icon’s life story. Songs like Dil Ke Afsanay and Ae Watan Ke Sajeelay Jawanon saw the ladies humming along with her.
The auction too, was entertaining for one of the organisers, Bushra, did the job of a stand-up comic in between the bidding, keeping everyone in fits. Her impersonations were particularly well done. To add to the excitement there were prizes for those who met the criteria for winning them.
